Podcast Hosts: Ideas to get more listeners

This post is all about getting you more listeners. I recently wrote this post with the biggest reasons why you may well be losing listeners. Have a read of that post.

Here are some ideas on how to get more Podcast listeners. My advice is simple, spend more time marketing your Podcast than you did making it. No one will just show up & listen to it, you need to be actively promoting & marketing it.

Tell the Universe: Start with the easiest things. Tell everyone, shout from the rooftops to everyone you have a Podcast, add it to your email signature, bio’s on all your social media channels, tell your friends & networks to rate review & subscribe to it, email everyone customers & clients.

Make sure your Podcast is listed with as many directories as possible. Without doubt make sure you’re on Apple Podcasts (iTunes in old money) Spotify and Google Podcasts.

Once you’ve made a recording, you should really add a blog post and the episode to your own blog or website. Most podcast hosts will give you the embed code so you can easily add it. If you’ve not got a Podcast host – Try Buzzsprout they’re great.

Create a Blog for your Show: You really need to create a blog for your Podcast. Somewhere where you can call home. You can then embed episodes on there, add content, add other info about you, products and services. If you’ve not got a blog, try Cloudabove or Bluehost to host it. Both are fab.

Add the show notes to your blog or website. This is great for seo purposes. but can be a real time hassle. Try Otter.ai or Rev.ai who both do AI speech recognition. Simply upload your episode and within a few minutes it will be fully transcribed for you. You will need to edit it and look for errors.

Short of time? Try repurpose.io Itsan easy-to-use automation platform that helps Podcast hosts maximise their exposure by posting audio content to other social media platforms without spending hours doing it.

Post to other social media platforms So you’ve got your audio episode, you now want to post it to other social media platforms. Try Headliner.App It will take the audios that you have done & allow you to make audiograms to post on your different social media channels.

Create Snippets: Create 30-60 secs snippets of each episode so you can post them and you can ask your guests to post them as well. You can use Headliner.App to help you do this, or if you use Buzzsprout they have a great free audio snippet creation tool.

Create a mailing list: You can then message people when a new episode goes live, ask for feeback on episodes, ask for ideas on future topics, get to know your listeners better, and of course, it helps you build a deeper relationship with them if you ever wanted to promote your products or services.

If you’ve not got a mailing list, try MailerLite Spotaguest has an email list. I use them to run it and they really make it all very very simple & will help you get the very best open rates that you can. Remember, you dont own anything on social media. Thats someone elses playground.

Whats Trending? Use Google Alerts & Twitter to find what trending, whose talking about what. Why? because your podcast may well have episodes on that topic, may have advice & info on that topic, may have a guest on that topic.

Finally.. Guest on other peoples Podcasts. This really is one of the very best ways to get more listeners. Get yourself on other Podcasts that have a similar audience to yours.
